ABOUT BULLIES
PERSONALITY
The bull terrier certainly is not a dog for everyone, but those who reluctantly accept the bull terrier's drawbacks are paid back in spades for the breed's positive traits.
The bull terrier personality is undoubtedly the greatest trait of this unique dog.undying devotion and loyalty to its family are coupled with clownish curiosity and playfulness to make a lifelong friend that is an absolute joy to own and watch.
The bull terrier is entertaining as it investigates new surroundings with the unending enthusiasm of a child and the tenacious attention to detail of a scotland yard dick. When introduced to an object of any kind be it a stuffed animal, a tennis ball or you name it, the bull terrier will inspect it, indulge it, play with it and eventually try to either eat it or destroy it. This makes for great entertainment on a lazy sunday afternoon.
Without objects to play with, the bull terrier is certainly creative enough to keep himself occupied.(Owners quickly learn that it is far more astute to provide appropriate toys that to lose valuables possessions.)in fact the unending desire to keep busy is a typical trait--something quite common amongst all puppies but a lifetime characteristic for the bull terrier.your bull terrier will find something to do,and if you are present, his her job is to make you laugh.
The character of a bull terrier is so unique that there is no other breed of dog like him. Small or large, bull terriers are alike in their character. They are fun-loving dogs. They will meet every demand that an owner will put on them, from showing in the ring to simply being a couch buddy. They have been know to sniff for bombs in world war II in england and to herd sheep and goats in india. They have sailed on the oceans with sailors and walked the trenches with soldiers. They are known for their loyalty and undying love. They are tough little dogs and their appearance does not let the public forget what the original bull terrier was created for,to fight in the pits.
The bull terrier's love for children and seniors is uncanny. Stories abound about how the bull terrier has saved children from fires, found lost children, and saved older folks from drowning, done by a breed that most people think cannot swim! Bull terriers are by nature busy dogs, especially as pups. As puppies, they do not like to sit still for anything. As they get older, they become more trainable. By the time they are four or five years old, the living room couch looks pretty inviting to them.
The standard states that '' a bull terrier must be strongly built, muscular, symmetrical and active, with a keen, determined and intelligent expression, full of fire but of sweet disposition and amenable to discipline. '' this is asking a lot of a dog, and yet, this is what you will get in a bull terrier!
A lot of people think that a bull terrier is aloof and hard to train. He is not really aloof. He has a tendency to have a ''wait and see'' attitude. He can be very inquisitive, giving strangers a ''checking you out'' greeting. He will approach, do a sniff test, circle you with a few dancing steps, subject himself to your petting and back rubbing, then sit back and take a good look at the person who is being overly friendly. If he accepts you, be prepared for a few high jumps, and sometimes a few body slams. Then he wil sit as close to you as possible, usually ending up sitting on your feet, which they love to do!
As for training , they are ultra smart, they just don't let you always see it. Do something one time with a bull terrier and it will be a lifetime thing.
